A little cloud with big dreams . . .

Illustrations are a highlight in this story of a little cloud with big dreams: Cloudette wants to “make a garden grow” and a “brook babble” and a “waterfall fall.” My favorite illustration depicts a cow looking down at Cloudette from the upper crescent of the moon as she perches on the lower part of the crescent, contemplating what “big and important” thing she can do. I try to avoid using the word cute in my reviews, but this one really is cute — even the rounded font seems friendly and personable. Some fun vocabulary too (especially in the dialogue): “prodigious precipitation” and “righteous rain!” indeed.
Cloudette is by Tom Lichtenheld, illustrator of Duck! Rabbit! (Henry Holt, 2011).
And take a look at how Cloudette came to be:
Lichtenheld used rainwater for his watercolors! Cloudette in a jar . . . love this sharing of the process!
