Self Portraits with Frida Kahlo & Chuck Close

At the first Picture This program of the summer, we studied Chuck Close’s grids & Frida Kahlo’s emotions.(with @Rebecca_Oneil).

Picture This is for children entering grades 3-5 in the fall. We introduce children’s books and then make art in the style of that artist. This year we are focusing on Fine Art (and as it turns out, mostly 20th century art). Last year’s focus was Caldecott artists, and the previous year was the art of the picture book. Books shared were Jonah Winter’s Frida (illustrated by Ana Juan; Arthur A. Levine, 2002) and Chuck Close: Face Book (Abrams, 2012)
